The short list — ten minutes, tops
Most stays include a cleaning fee, so a professional cleaner comes in after you. That means you do not need to clean — just these few things.
Check-out time is whatever we agreed before your stay. If plans change, text us; we can usually be flexible.
- Pack all your belongingsCheck the bathroom shelf, the bedside, chargers in the wall, and the fridge.
- Close every window and exterior doorThe cats stay in; the fog stays out.
- Lights off, heaters off, thermostat untouched“Ok Google, turn off all lights.” Unplug or switch off any space heater. The Nest looks after itself — no need to change it.
- Say goodbye to Lenin and NoelleMake sure both are inside and accounted for before the door closes.
- Strip the bed and put the linens in the washing machineSheets and pillowcases — and the duvet cover, if you used it without a top sheet. No need to run the machine or dry anything; just tuck them into the washer in the laundry room and we will take it from there.
- Text us when you are leaving for goodHarry (317) 625-0490 or Yang (650) 387-5436. Then pull the door closed until it clicks.
If your stay did not include a cleaning fee
Then this part is essential
Please readIf no cleaning fee was part of your stay, no cleaner is coming — the next arrival (very often us, off a long flight) walks straight into whatever you leave. In that case we ask that you leave the house as clean as you found it. Not tidied: clean.
- Wash the dishes, or load and run the dishwasherRemember: the cast-iron skillet, KitchenAid whisk and ice-cream scoop are washed by hand.
- Wipe down the counters, stovetop and dining table
- Return cookware and appliances to their homesMixer, Instant Pot, processor and blender go in the two bottom cabinets by the laundry-room door.
- Clear your perishables out of the fridgeUnopened staples are welcome to stay — the next guest will thank you.
- Clean the bathroomWipe the sink and counter, rinse the shower, and clear your shelf in the cabinet.
- Sweep or vacuum the floorsTwo cats plus a week of living equals fur. A quick pass through the bedroom, living room and kitchen is plenty.
- Put back any furniture you movedChairs, the coffee table, cushions — back where they live.
- Take out the trash, recycling and compostThe garage clicker is on the entry bench; the bins are on the right — grey, blue, green. Leaving on a Tuesday? Roll them to the curb for the night. How it works →

If anything broke, ran out, or puzzled you during your stay, tell us in your goodbye text — it helps us make the house better for the next person, and we are never upset about it.
